Aldactone (Spironolacton) 100 mg
Aldactone is a potassium-saving diuretic, or water tablet, that prevents your potassium levels from falling too low and prevents your body from absorbing too much salt.
Aldactone primarily acts on the kidneys to enhance the excretion of water and sodium while keeping potassium, acting as a potassium-sparing diuretic. It is beneficial in treating disorders like edema (fluid retention) and hypertension (high blood pressure) because of its particular action.
Spironolactone, the active component, is a member of the aldosterone receptor antagonist medication class. By inhibiting the actions of the hormone aldosterone, which controls the body’s sodium and water balance, Aldactone helps lessen the amount of salt and water that the kidneys reabsorb. Aldactone is frequently recommended for its anti-androgenic effects and its diuretic qualities. It is used to treat several hormonal imbalances, including acne and hirsutism (excessive hair growth), mainly when high androgen (male hormone) levels are a contributing factor.
PROTOCOL:
Oral tablets containing 25 mg, 50 mg, or 100 mg of Spironolacton are the recommended dosage for this medication. The maximum daily dose is determined by the indication-
a)Each day, 50 mg for HFrEF
- b) For resistant hypertension, 100 mg per day
- c) 200 mg every day for edema brought on by nephrotic syndrome or 400 mg per day for edema brought on by cirrhosis
- d) For primary hyperaldosteronism, 400 mg per day 5) 200 mg per day for hypokalemia brought on by diuretics
- e) 200 mg every day to treat hirsutism
- f) For acne vulgaris, take 200 mg each day.
Conclusion:
Aldactone (Spironolactone) 100 mg is a diuretic and anti-androgenic medication commonly used to address conditions such as edema and hypertension. Its ability to spare potassium makes it unique among diuretics, and it is often prescribed for managing hormonal imbalances leading to issues like hirsutism and acne.
